I guess you even don't need this conditional.
GNOME_MPRIS_Applet_SOURCES = \
$(GNOME_MPRIS_Applet_VALASOURCES)
together with AM_PROG_VALAC in your configure.ac
should suffice. According to the docs, this will also work for users
without a valac installation.
