Why AM_PROG_LEX and yet AC_PROG_YACC? Could we not just add AC_PROG_LEX and AM_PROG_YACC aliases, just to be nice? It seems a little extreme to be forced to remember which use AM prefixes and which use AC prefixes. It makes responsibility clearer, but still.....
