Hello,

I'm quite new to autofs. Its nice!
Now I have a question: Is it possible to automount a device directly under `/'
and not only under `/somewhere' ?
I have configured to automount:
    /somewhere/cdrom
and having a symbolic link
    /somewhere/cdrom --> /cdrom
Works fine, as long as you don't do a `ls /'. That simply hangs.
I think the `ls' tries to read the directory, finds the sym-link, and that
access triggers to mount the device, which in my case was not present....

Also filename expansion of `bash' does not work, not for `ls /cd <TAB>' nor for
`ls /somewhere/cd <TAB>'. The first, I think, is due to the same reason as
above. The second, is due to the fact, that unless accessing `/somewhere/cdrom'
(and implicitly mounting it), the directory `/somewhere' contains no such thing
as `cdrom'.

What can I do? I like bash's filename expansion, and I like mounting the stuff
under / directly.

Another question: I'ma able to automount a cdrom-drive as user, but I can
`umount' only as root. `/etc/fstab' is configured, so that mounting
and unmounting can be done by a user. So what have to be done for autofs to
have the same behaviour?

With best regards
Juergen

I use Linux automount version 3.1.3, kernel 2.2.5 and installed from SuSe 6.1
