yeah...the autofs howto is sadly out of date...
( wanted to add howto section for suse, debian, caldera, slackware, pht,
- when the *need* arises I suppose...

have not seen that or other approaches...
I'll be more than happy to give you an acct to implement it if you
want to try and build up the searchable autofs archive..
I'm sometimes odd/different ... was thinking of doing the searches
with old fashion grep like I do for the sunsite HOWTO stuff...
