am guessing dist.engr:/test is not root owned ?
so you can mount it and see its contents...

what is your dist.engr:/etc/exports look like ??
i use something like:
        # only machines you want to see / 
        /               trustedmachine.domain.com(ro,no_root_squash)
        /test           domain.com      

am guessing you have a directory permission problem that needs to be
changed at dist.engr..
