If it's 04711, you need root access to the disk in order to
read it. By default, you will not get this over NFS - you need
some extra options to share/exportfs. ("share -o root=hosts"
in Solaris, "no_root_squash" in /etc/exports in Linux.
See "share_nfs(1M)" (Solaris) or "exports(5)" (Linux).
(I do not subscribe to the nfs list, sorry for my intruision there)
