5.2 did work. This basically sucks sometimes with Linux/free software.
A change with no apparent reason. I use this (local and yp-based
auto.master) all day long just as I do on my SUNs and it is major
annoyance that someone (ok, it _is_ your program, but maybe user
opinion should be something that counts, too) decides "hey. I don't
need/like this.  Let's remove this well known behaviour and annoy lots
of people". You won't see this from SUN/HP/IBM/SGI (maybe they will
drop the whole product line but not just make such a subtle, not well
documented, not well visible change). Upgrading from one OS release
(5.2) to another (6.2) and suddently your auto-mounts which worked for
ages stop working. No, I didn't find it in the release notes.

P.S.: I still like automount and have it in every day use. But if it
      mimicks SUN behaviour it should go all the way and not just some
      half-backed attempt.
