NIS and amd

Is there anyone out there that can explain to me why it is that while running the amd daemon it is unable to allow an user to change to their directory when they log into their account?

conditions are.
linux redhat 6.1 dual proc.
ypserver is on a HPUX server.  From the linux workstation I can ypcat -k auto.master with the following results:
/user2 auto.user2       -nosuid

and ypcat -k auto.user2 with the following results:
home20 az09fs01:/vol/vol1/home/home20

I need someone who is very knowledgeable about NIS.  thank you.
