autofs is *NOT* NFS.  There is no reason it shouldn't work, except for
the fact that the NFS daemon needs to know when a filesystem is coming or
going, so it knows if it should be exported or not.

It might be worthwhile to put a hook into the mount modules for that, or
to write a wrapper for mount and umount.
