Shouldn't '/etc/auto.home' and '/etc/auto.misc' above just be 'auto.home'
and 'auto.misc'? I don't think that '/etc/auto.misc' is a proper
name for an NIS map.

What does 'ypcat -k auto.misc' show on your system?
