I believed at that moment that it would not show up the filesystem, but at
that very second, when I tried it again, it did. - So I was really sort of
shocked then. It didn't do what I expected it to and what it had done only
short before.

Will the current (?) version 3.1.7 work under RH 6.2? Or do I have to
include as well some kernel patches, etc. ? (My current kernels are 2.2.14
and 2.2.16)
(Again: don't beat me for that!) ;-)
Can you tell me in which version that bug was fixed? (Can't find it in
the NEWS file of the sources)

That's exactly what I expected.
On another look (right now) I can see that there have been RPC timeouts, but
for
no apparent reason.
Here is a snippet of the messages of one of the clients (sorry for the
automatic
linebreaks):
Apr 17 09:53:48 tahiti automount[14343]: mount(nfs): nfs: mount failure
curacao:/export/home/rossc on /homes/rossc

The same appears on other clients that were hit by the problem, too.
And here is a snippet of the server's messages:

Since this was the first time I was hit by that problem, no debugging options
or so had been
enabled. So I can't see any reason.
Some more of the server side:
Apr 17 09:28:05 curacao mountd[590]: authenticated mount request from
malta.mie7:636 for /export/home/hwe (/export/home)
Apr 17 09:30:50 curacao mountd[590]: authenticated mount request from
malta.mie7:664 for /export/home/ehingc (/export/home)
Apr 17 09:30:58 curacao kernel: fh_verify: home/ehingc permission failure,
acc=1, error=13
Apr 17 09:32:44 curacao automount[17364]: expired /homes/hwe
Apr 17 09:33:42 curacao mountd[590]: authenticated unmount request from
malta.mie7:686 for /export/home/hwe (/export/home)
Apr 17 09:36:12 curacao mountd[590]: authenticated unmount request from
malta.mie7:787 for /export/home/ehingc (/export/home)
Apr 17 09:42:51 curacao automount[9580]: attempting to mount entry /homes/hwe
Apr 17 09:48:59 curacao automount[17489]: expired /homes/hwe
"hwe" is my account, curacao is our server, malta and tahiti are two of the
machines that behaved erratic.
Between "Apr 17 09:48:59 curacao automount[17489]: expired /homes/hwe" and:
"Apr 17 10:03:05 curacao mountd[590]: refused mount request from 139.21.11.51
for /export/home/tanws (/): no export entry"
Are no additional entries in the messages of the server, but tahiti had
mounting problems (s.a.)
in exactly this timeframe.
Are you sure that upgrading to 3.1.7 will fix my problems?
Best regards,
Herbert
