ran into an intersting problem this past mon
say we have redhat-8.0 w/ linux-2.4.20
/etc/auto.master
#
# nothing else
#
/.autofs /etc/auto.home --timeout 600
#
# end of file
/etc/auto.home
#
# empty file
#
/etc/nsswitch.conf
#
# i took out all references to nisplus too
#
... usual stuff ...
automount: nis files
...
autofs is running ... ( /etc/rc.d/init.d/autofs start )
---------------------
a) with auto.master as shown above ... ypwhich -m fails...
as does all nis related services
b) when we comment out all ( the one ) map in /etc/auto.master
than nis works as it should ( automounted )...
ypwhich -m and nis logins works fine
= no changes other than the one line change in auto.master
