Go for it. Autofs 4 as it stands scratches all my itches, so my
motivation to do more with it has (obviously) been low. Some subtle
problems have popped up in the kernel side lately which I plan to work
on, but do what you think is useful to user-mode.
The big, obvious problem is packaging the current stuff properly, and
making the init scripts work with all the different distros. The
secondary problems have been feature-related, in particular all the
different places people want to get their maps from. I've never really
been able to test that stuff, but it is mostly common to v3.
I'll collect together my local patches I've accumulated and send them to
you.
