/usr/local/bin usually is architecture specific  and 
the rest of it is /usr/local ... for related libs and config files etc

/usr/local.sun  /usr/local.sgi  /usr/local.linux  ..etc.. etc..
and /usr/local.scripts

what does your /etc/auto.master look like and referenced files

what does your /etc/export* files look like from the other sun/sgi/linux
boxes
