Having looked more closely at this I found that it is actually another
limitation of the pseudo direct mount implementation in autofs-4.1. The
effort to change would be fairly significant both in the daemon and the
kernel module.
Since this and other limitations of the 4.1 implementation will be fixed
in autofs-5.0 I really don't think the time would be well spent as I need
it for 5.0.
So there would have to be a very compelling case.
