I guess it looks like it ought to work, but it does not.
I'll have to reproduce this at home and look at the stack trace to
see what I can do.  Thanks for the report. - Bruce

P.S. a workaround:  Inside the template proper, add this:

   [= (out-move (get "trace-file")) =]

Just don't be crossing any file system boundaries.....:)
(I use either "rename" or "link" + "unlink")
