DEPDIR not set by current CVS Automake

Hello all,

I'm having problems with my Libtool/Automake project when
using dependency tracking.  It seem that the variable
DEPDIR isn't set anywhere in any of the Makefiles.
This may be because the top level Makefile doesn't have
any targets that aren't in subdirs.
  I think this is a bug as it worked in previous versions
of Automake.
