Not really.. you have 2 main implementations - avahi, bonjour(mDNSResponder) both are available on many platforms.. some for example avahi is not available on windows but mDNSResponder is.. but neither is installed by default or even commonly. avahi is much more common on linux, mDNSResponder is on osx.. etc. the only common library i know between the two is I think KDE's mDNS interface which has an avahi plugin and mDNSResponder plugin but i have no idea what the state of that is and I believe it is quite tied to KDE libraries. I would love to promote using Avahi API natively but if you wrote for mDNSResponder - Avahi has a compatibility library to use Avahi with the same API calls.. but it is a bit ugly to rely on it rather than using it for existing programs.
