If you want to watch along, I submitted a test build
http://nagoya.apache.org/~rubys/gump/ .  At the time I am writing this, the
cvs updates are done and the build is about to start.  I believe that I
have made a quick stab at splitting out of excalibur, but you might want to
take a peek.
