Well if we follow your philosophy we may aswell mark everything as unstable 
and likely to change in future versions. There aint nothing that is fixed and 
we have not even got close to where we have been heading for last 3 years I 
been about.

If no one uses, developes or maintains it then it is abandoned. Someone can 
always "refactor" from the actively maintained code or get the archaic code 
out of history.
