Removing the author tags creates a lot of social tension, as you have seen in this discussion. To balance the scale there should be a compelling advantage - but there isn't. The argument "pro removal" centers on social issues just as the "against removal" arguments.
Ulrich is right. Last time we had the discussion it wasn't nearly as tense; if you check the archives there's just a dozen or so of "chilled out" messages about pros and cons, and in my memory the "pros" sorta won.

Seeing how much pain and emotion this stuff is causing for some people, I'm changing my vote to a -1.

I cut author tags from avalon-framework ages ago and IIRC everyone agreed on it at that time. I removed 'em from tweety as well, and from Developing with Avalon (though I did more to damage that paper than fix it so far (:( ). If y'all want I can go and figure out revert that stuff. Not a problem.

I'll happily revert the recent author tag changes in the thread package as well once I get to a machine where I have cvs access, though I hope Steve will beat me to it if the outcome of this discussion points in that direction ;)

Really peeps, lighten up a little! Just to throw another cliche in: "What's in a/no name?"

cheers,

- Leo
