I'm not sure to understand this issue right. The FilterTarget (found in the compat path) seems to be deprecated. So what about the PriorityFilter which is based upon the FilterTarget interface? As it makes sense to filter by priority (as the ServletOutputTarget is used in Cocoon) shouldn't the PriorityFilter be based upon LogTarget in a way like AsyncLogTarget does?
