It was xerces 1.4.4. Scarab will not build without xerces 1.4.4 so I swapped it, but Avalon doesn't appear to build unless you use xerces 2.0? If this is the case you might want to note that somewhere as the build doesn't seem to work if you are using 1.4.4.
