I don't know of any reasons why the one in avalon-apps would not be able to meet your needs.

You should be able to conduct some testing using JMeter (http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter). It has support for testing FTP sites.
If you do conduct some tests, I'll be happy to add them to the site for the avalon-apps FTP server.
Does this mean I'm the first one willing to use it in a production environment and that nobody ever performed some load tests on it ?
