yes. You can run phoenix (if it's an option), or I believe any recent nightly build, or 'hack' a release. It /should/ also be possible to write your own extended LogkitManager which secretly is a wrapper around the Log4JLoggerManager I think.

I do not think Log4J is supported very well by default in the current ECM release (but I'm not too sure). We're working on getting fortress out (the next-gen ecm, basically) which will make using log4j a snap.
