Yes - mplayer was working fine for me, using the codecs in that directory.

Turns out that for some reason I was getting an overlay, but it wasn't
hardware accelerated, so aviplay was crashing.

I took out the hw check in the YUVRenderer constructor (in
lib/aviplay/renderer.cpp), and aviplay works fine, except that the video
isn't at maximum size when I switch to fullscreen w/ the f key.

I haven't looked into why I can't get a hw accelerated overlay - I have a
GeForce card, and xdpyinfo shows that I have the XVideo extension (SDL
1.2.0-1, XFree86 4.0.1-1, NVIDIA_GLX-0.9-6).
