I have been using aviplay for a couple weeks and I can't figure out what
factors make playback either good or bad.
I have 3 divx;-) rips where the playback varies widely among them
here are the short sheet on these:
aliens 3
1500kbit, 48k, 560x240 23fps
0% frame drop
silence of the lambs
1500kb, 48k. 640x320 23 fps
70.2% frame drop
evil dead I
1378kb, 44100, 512x384 29fps
97.5% frame drop
all are 'lowmotion divx;-)'
running 'benchmark' shows with any divx files I have I get 17-20Mps
output (yes, I have mtrr set by my Xserver:)
reg00: base=0xea000000 (3744MB), size= 32MB: write-combining, count=2
does this seem reasonable? I changed the mem size to 16M and it doesn't
make anything faster (trying to match the size of physical ram on the
card, not sure why it does 32M on it's own ...) without mtrr set I get
about 12M/ps output on benchmark.
my hardware specs are:
AMD K6-II 450
192M PC100 RAM
Voodoo3 3500 16M (AGP aperature set to 256M in bios, I tried 64M as well)
I have tried reading the files from CD (2 different drives) and harddrive
(2 different drives) with the same results.
Does anyone know which factors above could effect playback between
semi-similar files so drastically?
This is with avifile 0.53.3 (I think) (I haven't been able to get any
version of avifile to compile in the last couple days that I tried. I
tried CVS and the 0.53.5 tarball, different problems, I'm not sure how I got
aviplay to compile before it was hard to get it going but I did. Now I
can't remember HOW) (it isn't linking right, undefined references to a lot
of C++ stuff (stuff right from <iostream>, adding -lstdc++ didn't help)
