Well, I suck at programming. I can tell you that. ;) - I do some PR for

Why do u insist of making GUI? the GUI that was so far was good enough for 
playback files, all it needed as adding URL handling - thats of course for 
avi playback. As for recording files, I haven't tried it here but I know 
there are some projects which uses avifile for recording...

You might want to leave the gui as a sort of "plug-in" like the Xine project 
does - so each "camp" like KDE or GNOME can write it's own GUI with 
drug-n-drop support (bonobo/kparts). This project also could become part of 
KDE with konqueror as io-slave for embedding inside konqueror for file 
playback or as a stand alone application. I'm just tossing ideas in the air..

If I was a programmer - then you'll be assured that I was planning to do just 
like that. However - I suck at it :(
