1. - debug info could be striped
2. - it was made this way - however when I've asked some user to 
     send me debug output it was a bit problematic for them to
     rebuild binary without debug info
3. - disk-space is relatively cheap so some extra kilobytes shouldn't be
     problem - they are not loaded into memory when they are not needed.
4. - you could send us much better bugreport if the aviplay crashes

Well its fully compilable on my system - so you fill have to
be more specific if you want to fix this.
