Summary: segfault relating to c++ code

Initial Comment:
when running any of the tools compiled, it receive a segfault. I've run gdb and found
it goes back to any line that has 'cerr' and 'cout' and '<<' in them.

System:
  linux 2.2.17
  debian 2.2
  gcc/g++ 2.95.2
  stdc:
    libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so
    libstdc++-3-libc6.1-2-2.10.0.so
  libc6: 2.1.3

This bug can be closed - it's old anyway. I fixed it by
adding '-lstdc++' when linking the binary.

Message:
This must be the old .registry bug. When I updated my CVS tree (which was about a
month old) I could after recompiling and installing no longer start aviplay. Removing
~/.registry fixed it. Yes, I also got the SIGSEGV, no, I didn't check with gdb.

Either the registry reading should be made more robust or this behaviour should be
documented :-).

Message:
I receive reports about it from time to time, but I cannot reproduce the problem. It
does not happen on Linux systems I've got access to. According to your submission,
we've got different kernels ( mine is 2.2.14 ) and different libc ( 2.1.2 ). Did you
try it with other versions of kernel or libc6?
