[Avifile]undefined reference to mpegtoraw

when compiling avifile-0.53 i recieve an undefined reference to mpegtoraw, and
therefor when i try to use the avi-xmms plugin it will not initialize the 
llibaviplay.so libraty. i'm running redhat 7.1 . what could be the source of
this problem be.  Thank you for you time, a speedy response would be
appreciated
