Well obviously, the default 'nv' driver with XFree 4.0.3 didn't have this
problem. No HW accel there tho. Also tried the utah-glx module with 3.3.6,
worked like a dream except that its _VERY_ slow.

But I just yesterday found some nvidia problems doc with google that in great
lenght explained how compiling in framebuffer support for the card causes
'green box problems'. I have no clue what 'green box problems' are (?!) but I
don't like the sound of it. Forgot "don't" there in that sentence?-)
