Well, I was trying to compile with egcs (kgcc in MDK 8). It compiles now with
2.95 and 2.95.3 OK, but 2.96 produces all sorts of errors when using programs
such as mpeg2divx and drip (despite aviplay running fine). 2.95.3 under MDK 8
results in dependent programs working (more or less!) but segfaults in
aviplay! However it all seems OK under Slack 8 with 2.95.3, including
mpeg2divx. I'm considering relearning slack....
