Well what do you know... it worked!
I --rebuild'ed the SDL rpms and installed them, checked out a new fresh
copy of the avifile source-tree and compiled. It worked without a hitch.
Strange, yes.
(btw, maby you are interested in what setup I have (to be able to see
what was possibly wrong):
Redhat 7.1, but very updated.
Ximian Gnome 1.4
I had SDL-1.2.1, but the one I installed now are 1.2.2
XFree86 4.1.0, using nvidia binary driver for my Geforce 2 MX)
