I also think that lines about being unable to load DLLs shouldn't matter. In
fact, I don't understand where is the problem,
because there are no other serious reported errors. Does it work if you put
divx_c32.ax back? One of this may help:
1. delete /usr/local/lib/avifile/libopendivx.* and update
/usr/local/lib/libdivx*.so to most recent versions
( http://avifile.sf.net/divx4linux-20010807.tgz )
2. uncheck 'use direct mode if possible' in configuration dialog
3. uncheck 'use hardware acceleration if detected' in configuration dialog

Regarding root, I guess you're right. I've not read the source code to the
opendivx driver so it could be doing something nasty to my laptop but this
is a risk I'm willing to take.
