Greetings --
I run Debian unstable, and recently installed the latest avifile
packages (20010907). I've had the following problems for a while now
(since 0.5.x), but figured they were with the avi's, until now.
I have a number of .avi files which I've taped using my TV card, using
the vcr program. I used the DirectShow DivX low-motion codec (on
playback, aviplay says "Using DirectShow codec: divx_c32.ax"; i recently
switched to the DivX fast-motion codec, with no effect). The audio and
video are out of sync by between 0.2 and 1 second. The audio always
trails the video, and the problem (and offset) remains consistent
through the viewing of an entire 1-hour episode (of course,
fast-forwarding through commercials).
When I use mplayer to view the same files, same codec, the audio and
video are much better sync'ed, with no noticeable problems (I would use
mplayer, but far prefer aviplay's interface). I am running on an
otherwise unloaded Athlon 1200 with 256 MB RAM, so I don't figure CPU
load for much of a culprit.
Now, I seem to recall discussion of some option to adjust the
audio/video sync, and played with the value of the Async option in
~/.avirc, with no effect.
Any thoughts appreciated, and if you need any debugging output, or the
.avi's (they're kinda big; i can see about generating a shorter clip
which exhibits this problem if need be), just let me know.
Thanks a lot for this great piece of software.
Cheers,
Algis R.
