Sure, everything that changes the file should be optional.
Even a description how to repair the avi using some other tool could be
enough. (But that description should be put to stdout when a broken avi is
read. You know, something like: Reconstructing index, this may take a long
time. You may repair the file with "avirepair -a -b -c" manually.)
