might be that your autoconf doesn't support check_PROGRAMS ????
(though it would be quite unique :)...)

but this error doesn't seemed to be that much tragic - you
might have try to run configure and compile at least aviplay.

so you have installed them in a wrong way
(or in such a place that it can't be found in you PATH -
so check if autoheader is in you $PATH - if it's not than
append the path for this binary and restart autogen.sh

Is there more then one RedHat ?
I've though that RedHat users should be able to compile this without
problem if they have normaly installed systems - without some
'home-made' tricks. Do you use standard RedHat ?
