yeah I've have these features in my personal todo list - but not that
much time to implement them :(

So go ahead - I guess I'd like to first see some patches and then we may
add you to CVS developer list (do you have SF account ?)
Maybe I should write some notes about direction where aviplay should go
e.g. I'm planning to make it a little bit more gui independent - so there
should be clear border between GUI and the player itself and few more
things...
But so far I see much more problems with the library itself so the tools
are just being maintained to be compilable...
