Hi:

Just a quick question. Is it illegal to distribute _all_ the windows dlls ?

Can you elaborate on this ?

Is due to the libraries format or because of what they contain ?

Does Microsoft pay to distribute the non-M$ codecs ?

Would it also bew illegal to provide them in our web site ?

Are they illegal because of the GPL nature of linux ? (we can make a separate
CD then)

I am interested in this since I work for a small linux distro here in
Portugal, and it is impossible to provide a media player (wich actually plays
all the crappy videos the regular users receive by email) without the dlls .
(altough of course divx, mpeg1, mpeg2 would be possible)

Sorry about making a lot of questions ;)

Thank you very much
Gustavo

You asked me the same question yesterday about lame :-)
Sure, win32 loader has nothing illegal, it's just useless without win32dll,
which are illegal to distribute. Providing them in a distinct subpackage
allow to add a dependance for win32 package, ensuring propre
auto-installation with urpmi tool.
