Well everything is just fine except the Suse contains broken SDL libraries.
Some distribution (i.e. Debian) provide several build of SDL with
various feature set - so if the same thing is possible with Suse
I'd probably suggest to install the simpliest version without
those extra esd/arts plugins.
But if you need them - you will have to install libesd developmental
package (Suse is missing this dependency for sdl-dev packages)

actually it is - but as the search in the mailing list doesn't
work, there is not FAQ and mostly no Doc it is really not a problem
