As long as the compiler can pick up the header and library when you're
building avifile, it doesn't really matter. However /usr/local/include (for the
.h files) and /usr/local/lib (for the .so files) is the preferred location, with
most distributions, for stuff that's not being handled by the package management
system (RPM or whatever).
