I was under the impression that avicap actually uses the xawtv settings.
The part which reads the .xawtv file and sets the channel could be
reused. I did not look at the code yet. I will take a look at v4lctl
first or maybe I will borrow vcr from which borrowed it from xawtv as
well.

    Definite 'maybe'. I do not think it is really necessary, since there is
    v4lctl. Borrowing code from avicap is not a good idea because of too
    many dependencies on various libs, eg. qt.
    
    If someone wants to do it, okay. But I would suggest to use code from
    xawtv, so it can use the settings in ~/.xawtv.
    
    My intention was to keep avirec small.
    
    BTW, I use a script for avirec. Maybe I should check that into cvs.
