The version of avi-xmms you're using *requires* an old version
of avifile because the API has changed completely since the plugin was
last updated.  You have two choices for a replacement:
        http://sourceforge.net/projects/my-xmms-plugs/
        Or http://www.openface.ca/~nephtes/patches.html
        The latter is my own code.  It has a more complete configuration
interface but cannot pipe sound through XMMS, which the package at
the first link will allow you to do.  Also it's a patch on top of
XMMS rather than a true plugin, so it may be less convenient to install.
