Yes player uses multiple threads to precache video/audio frames.
For encoding is more effiecient to split the movies and use two
separate processes. It would be hard to use multiple threads
for video encoding.

For now I could just recomend mencoder - I simply don't have time
to fix everything at this moment and in my eyes ffmpeg mpeg4 is currently
the very good choice...
