And what would you propose ? :)
Althou I think there is probably project (ffmpeg) which deserves more support
(and especially the person who writes all the Mpeg decoding stuff)
To make the things more clear - the libaviplay itself is LGPL
But things like aviplay are GPL - simply because QT Licence requires this.
As I'm not layer I'm not sure if the QPL could spread also into the
library which is below aviplay.
And there are also some other parts in plugins part & ffmpeg part which
are GPL (mainly AC3 decoding)
Also you should know that 'magic' from avifile parsing will end-up in
some form in ffmpeg and the only left part will be ffmpeg reader - but
this is the longstanding goal.
library itself should be build easily - but also requires compilation
of ffmpeg (as I'm lazy to maintain non-ffmpeg build)
Some plugins might be probably moved into library (especially plugins
for PCM audio should be located inside library - and also ffmpeg
plugin will be moved into aviplay - as ffmpeg is already part of
aviplay)
The rest of plugins (Xvid/Divx/Mp3/...) can't be licenced to LGPL -
as they have their own licencies.
