This is usually caused by some bug in XFree server - and commonly present
with some Trident video cards on some laptops.
You should probably try to upgrade to the latest available version
(at least XFree4.2)
For the quick fix - you might want to disable usage of YUV hw acceleration
(but this will certainly make things slower)
