Both kino and mplayer are perfectly able to play digitale videofiles (DV-PAL) these days, though differences between DV type1 end DV type2 are important. In former days only Avifile was able to give me a good preview of video productions I made. But now Avifile is the problem maker because it complains:
CreateVideoDecoder(): Unknown codec 0x64737664 = "dvsd" IAviPlayer: FATAL: Failed to initialize decoder object No video will be available All possible codecs (including qdv.dll and mcdvd_32.dll) are in /usr/lib/win32 but the doesn't help. As far as I know maplyer looks in this directory too and it finds and uses qdv.dll to decode the video.
