Reasonable idea, except that the libXft in /usr/local/lib is a symlink to 
libXft in /usr/X11R6. Holdover from a recompile to move it though, you are 
correct there.

So I tried recompiling without Xft (configure --disable-xft and configure 
confirmed Xft was nixed). But it's still segfaulting on XTextExtents16 () 
from /usr/X11/libX11.so .

Any other ideas?
