That should work, my hard drive failed on that machine so I need to get this spun up again. For Avogadro 2 I use Qt (5.3 I think last time, want to try with 5.5) using MSVC 2010.
They both have superbuilds that can make it easier to get all of the dependencies, or you can get them for yourself. Hope that helps.
